“FADE TO DRAB”
Fade to Drab is the story of adolescent science-experiment Shelley Erlenmeyer and her struggle to thrive in that most dangerous terrain of middle-school.
Along the way, she will face such obstacles as group projects, disinterested crushes, crushing self-doubt, unearthly scientific abominations, and the dentist.
Will Shelley learn to value herself and reach out to others, or simply shut herself off from a world she’s decided doesn’t want her?
★ This was a comic I worked on as my Senior Thesis project between the Fall of 2016 & Spring of 2017 towards my Illustration BFA at MICA. In terms of both style and skill, I have improved a good deal since that time. Nonetheless, at six chapters total, start-to-finish conceived and completed in a time span of less than a year, Fade to Drab is still a project I am immensely proud of and learned a great deal through.
…That being said, you can find some of my more recent - and more concise - sequential work in the “fan-comics” section in the index.
STRANGE ELEGY
An adaptation of the poem of the same name, “Strange Elegy,” from Ryan Teitman’s book of poetry Litany for the City, this comic was created for my Junior Thesis project at MICA.
An exploration on the surreal underpinnings of everyday life and the uncanny, often disappointing, but perhaps solemnly beautiful reality from which one hopes to find purpose and fulfillment.
